Three Upton Brothers.
One Loses His Life.
News has been received by Mrs. Jordan, 8, Salacre Terrace, Upton (near Birkenhead), to the effect that her husband, Sergeant John Jordan, has been killed in action in France. A letter of sympathy has been sent to Mrs. Jordan by the Company Quartermaster Sergeant, saying : “I am exceedingly sorry to inform you of the death of your husband, Sergt. J. Jordan, of my company, who was killed in action on Saturday July 15th, 1916. He was a great chum of mine, and a fine fellow, who did his duty well and conscientiously, and I can assure you that you have the wholehearted sympathy of myself and his fellow comrades in your extremely sad bereavement.”
Sergt. Jordan was only 24 years of age, and was attached to the South Lancashire Regiment.
The deceased Sergeant had two brothers (of Thingwall) also serving with the colours – namely, Private Stanley Jordan and Private George Jordan of the Cheshire Regt.
