Private John William Jones, of the Kings Liverpool Regiment, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jones of 78 Remer Street Crewe, has died of wounds received in action. He listed shortly after the war broke out and has been at the front since June last. Prior to enlistment he was employed as a fitter in the Steel works. He was a member of the Men’s Own Brotherhood and also of the Henry Street Primitive Methodist Church. He was in his 19th year.
His mother has received a letter from the Rev. P. H. Turnbull, chaplain, in the following terms.
“I deeply regret to tell you that your son private J W Jones of the Kings Liverpool Regiment died in this dressing station from wounds received in action on the 12th of October. Everything possible was done for him, but she was too badly hurt. Please accept my deepest sympathy in your great sorrow. You can rest assured that you have reason to be proud of your boy who gave his life for his country so bravely.”
