The Stalybridge Reporter. Saturday, November 4, 1916.

The death is reported in the 10th General Field Ambulance of Private John Edward Jones, Sherwood Foresters, who resided at 36 Back Grosvenor Street.
Private Jones was a joiner at Messrs. Chadwick’s Mill. Tame valley but owing to his health becoming somewhat impaired he decided to join the arm, and enlisted at Ashton in the “bantams” twelve months ago last Easter, and he subsequently attached to the Sherwood Foresters. The training did him incalculable good. He went to the front last Christmas.
Mrs. Jones received a letter on Wednesday from the 10th Field Ambulance, dated  28 October, stating that he had passed away. He was 30 years of age, and Mrs. Jones is left with three young children to mourn his loss.
