Birkenhead News 23 November 1918

DIED FROM WOUNDS.

Mrs. Griffiths of 23, Woodville Road, has received the sad news that her son has died from wounds received in action on Nov. 8th 1918. Pte. W. Griffiths 10622 joined the Army on the 10th August, 1914. He was 20 years of age when he joined the 8th Cheshire Regt. He was drafted to Egypt, and went through all the heavy fighting at the Dardanelles without a scratch. On the way to the relief of General Townshend, under the command of General Maude, he was wounded in April, 1916, at Kut, both thighs being injured. He was brought back to Liverpool in August, 1916, and was in three local hospitals. Then he transferred to the 9th Cheshire Regt., and sent to France in May, 1918. He was educated at Oxton School, and was well liked by all who knew him. Deeply mourned by his loving Mother and brother, John and sister Ethel.
Dear son of mine, whose face again I shall never see with my tear dimmed eyes, those messages have for ever ended. The sad hope of him never to return. His duty noble done.
