James Arthur's Story.
James A. Boulton is remembered on the Christ Church Memorial at Barnton, Northwich.
N/wich Guardian article dated 10th October 1916. DIED IN HOSPITAL, PRIVATE J. BOULTON
A few days ago news was received at Barnton that Private James Boulton, son of Mr. and Mrs W. H. Boulton of George Street, had died from enteric fever whilst on active service. Before enlisting in the early part of this year Private Boulton was employed on the office staff of the Winnington Co-operative Society. (This lad does not appear to have had a full 12 months training having enlisting in the early part of 1916 then being posted to a theatre of war such that he dies in the early part of the 4th quarter of 1916.)
C.W.G.C. remember James Arthur Boulton, Pte., at the Allonville Communal Cemetery (A. 17.) France. He was with the 21st Bn. Manchester Reg’t, Service No 32026, died on the 26th Sept. 1916, aged 21, Son of William Henry and Mary Alice Boulton, of 12 George St. Barnton, Northwich, Cheshire with the Personal Inscription; His memory to father and mother is most sacred his life gave us no pain.
N.A.M.C. have a medal card for this lad, he was with a Manchester Regiment Service No 32026, Pte., James A. Boulton, awarded the British and Victory medals. T.o.W. and D.o.E. not addressed.
Cheshirebmd records a James Arthur Boulton born in 1895 at Weaverham. This would work in with his age of 21 when he died.
The 1911 census records this Boulton family living as 12 George St. Barnton, head of the family was William Henry aged 44 Electrician at the Chemical Works; Annie, wife, aged 48 (she had had 6 children all surviving.); James Arthur aged 15, worked at the Co. Op., Stores Office, George Henry aged 14 worked at the Chemical Works. Still at home where two sisters Mary and Alice both at school. All the family born Barnton. Two members of the family missing.

George H. Boulton is remembered on the Christ Church Memorial at Barnton, Northwich.
Northwich Guardian 5th July 1918. DIED OF WOUNDS PRIVATE GEORGE HENRY BOULTON
Official news was received on Wednesday by Mr. and Mrs Boulton of 12 George Street, Barnton, that their son, Private George Henry Boulton of the Yorkshire Regiment, had died of wounds abroad on June 13th. Private Boulton who would have attained his 22nd birthday on Sunday next, had been in the Army since April 1917, and was drafted to the front almost twelve months ago. He was formerly employed at the Winnington Works of Messrs Brunner Mond and Co. His only brother died from Dysentery whilst on active service in September, 1916.

The B. M. & Co. R.o.H. booklet records a Boulton George Henry Pte., 1/5th Yorkshire Died, and with that is remembered on the Winnington WW1 Memorial.
N.AM.C. have a medal card for a Boulton George H., with the Cheshire Regiment, No 62409, he also had time with Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, No 41950 and Yorkshire Reg’t, No 35661, Pte. Awarded British and Victory medals, T.o.W. & D.o.E. not addressed.
C.W.G.C. remember a George Henry Boulton, Pte., with the 5th Bn. Yorkshire Regiment, Service No 35661, who died on the 13th June 1918 aged 21, at the Sezanne Communal Cemetery (A.8.) France, son of William Henry and Mary Alice Boulton of 12, George St., Barnton, Northwich.
George’s detail included with James to show the family had lost two sons.
