Birkenhead Soldier Leaves Three Orphan Children.

Very sad are the details concerning the death in action of Sergt. John Halewood, of the 1st Cheshire Regiment, which took place exactly a year ago. Not long before the war broke out Halewood, a reservist, lost his wife, who left him with three little girls. They were cared for by his sister, whose address is 40 D Block, Queens Buildings, but on the father being called to the colours the children were received into Christ Church Girls’ Home, where they still remain. Sergt. Halewood, who served in the South African war, was one of three soldier brothers. One brother was severely wounded, and the other has been “out” no fewer than three times.
