John's Story.

The 1901 Census suggests that John had been born in Cheadle and was then living in Cheadle. After the war, his parents, Mr & Mrs J Green were living in Cheadle Heath. He is presumed to have enlisted locally and his service number indicates that he would have been conscripted towards the end of 1916. John is recorded in military records as having "died", This usually means that he died from natural causes rather than "died of wounds". This would be consistent with him being buried at Wimereux which was, in 1917, a major centre for military hospitals.
