IS HE A PRISONER?
Tranmere Widow’s Suspense.
Mrs. Ellis, of 60, Old Chester Road, a well-known newsagent in the Village, has received official notification that her youngest son Private Alexander Ellis, No. 41325, of 9th Loyal North Lancashire Regt., was reported killed in action on the 17th of April. She, however, received letters from him dated April 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Since then they have ceased and she seems to think now that he is a prisoner of war. Many Tranmere men are serving in the regiment and should this catch the eye of any of them would they please communicate any news as to the fate of her son. He is 19 years of age and married and resided with his mother at the above address. He only left for France on April 12th, and a postcard was received on the 15th, saying he had arrived safely. He was a member of St Luke’s Church, Tranmere. Five other sons of this widow are also serving in the forces, three are abroad, and two are at present home again in England on sick leave. Photos of these five elder sons have already appeared in a previous issue of the “News”.
An earlier article from the Birkenhead News dated the 13th January 1917 shows Alexander's five brothers.
