William Henry's Story.

Birkenhead News  24 January 1920

Mr W H Skyrme

Much sympathy has been extended to Mrs Skyrme and family in the great loss they have sustained by the early death of the eldest son, Mr. William Henry Skyrme, which took place on Saturday last in his 21st year at the Duke of Connaught Military Hospital, Aldershot. The funeral, which was of a private character took place on Thursday at Flaybrick Hill Cemetery. The first portion of the burial service was taken in St. Anne’s Church, Beckwith Street, in the presence of a large attendance, by the vicar (Rev. W. E. Beck) and the Rev. R.H. Mayoh. The hymn “Now the labourer’s task is o’er” was very impressively rendered. At the conclusion of the service the organist (Mr Millward Hughes) plated the “Dead March” in “Saul”.

The floral tokens were numerous including tributes from the officers, N.C.O’s and men of the 1st. Batt. Lancashire Fusiliers C Company and the North end Liberal Club.
