Samuel's Story.

Samuel Daniel was born in Mobberley in 1881, one of eleven children born to James (a farmer) and Sarah of Dubbed Hedge, Mobberley. Samuel was a wagoner on a farm.

He joined the army as Private no. 268051 in the 1/6th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment.
Samuel was killed in action on the 21st March 1918.

Heavy bombardment of the German defences started about 4am. At 5 the Battalion stood ready to move. At 6 the Batt marched to LONGAVESNES and in conjunction with the remainder of the brigade dug a trench during the night which was to serve as a defensive flank.

Shelling by both sides during the night fairly slight.
