DIED AFTER DEMOBILISATION

A sad ending to a useful career and meritorious service for King and country came on Feb 10th, when after five days’ illness Gunner D. A. Jones died at 35, New Fox Street, as the result of pneumonia following influenza at the early age of 22. He joined the R. N. Volunteers in August, 1914, and was drafted from Birkenhead on the 21st of that month, afterwards served at Antwerp and the Dardanelles, subsequently serving as gunner on several transports. He was demobilised on the 2nd January after earning the praise of all his officers for his good conduct, and passed away whilst on demobilisation leave. He was interred at Flaybrick Hill Cemetery on 17th February with Naval honours
