St. Peter’s Old Boy Dies.
Taken Ill During Training.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Chiverton, of 11, Moreton Street, Birkenhead, have received the sad news of the death of their eldest son Gunner Albert Edward Chiverton, of the 3rd Lancashire R.G.A. He died in hospital from illness which came on while he was in course of training in this country. Gunner Chiverton was only 17 years of age, and was an old boy of St. Peter’s School, Birkenhead. For three months he was a member of the 1st Birkenhead Cadet Corps. He joined the Royal Garrison Artillery in September last, having previously for about a year been in the employ of A. E. Smith and Sons, stevedores, Birkenhead.
MILITARY FUNERAL AT FLAYBRICK.
The funeral took place at Flaybrick, on Monday. The Rev. Charles Dodge, vicar of St. Peter’s, was the officiating minister, and full military honours were given, the coffin was draped with the Union Jack, and was carried to the grave by some of the gallant youth’s comrades. A firing party consisting of men of the 3rd Cheshires, under the direction of Sergt. Haggerty, fired three volleys over the grave, and an escort of the late soldier’s Battery under an officer was also present.
