Charles's Story.

Born Nantwich, enlisted Manchester. Second son of Charles and Sarah Ellen Cartlidge of London Road, Nantwich. Former pupil of Willaston Council School. Joined up just after the outbreak of war. Formerly employed at Messrs. Haighton’s, Clothing Manufacturers of Nantwich. Landed (for Gallipoli) June 10, 1915, and went to France, March 1916. A friend of the family (Sapper Peter Hannon) writing home to his own mother stated that “Chuck” had died fighting bravely when the trench was overrun by Germans.
