News report

Chester Observer Saturday, January 12, 1918.

The photograph is that of Lance Corporal Jas. Campbell, Cheshire Regiment, who we regret to say, was killed in action on 26th November. Lance Corporal leaves a widow and five children. He joined the army in 1915 and was with the fighting forces aboard for two years and five months. His home is at 43 William Street, Newtown, Chester. The captain of his company has sent Mrs. Campbell the following letter of sympathy: “it is with the deepest regret that I write to inform you of the death of your husband Lance Corporal Campbell. He was killed instantaneously on the morning of the 26th November. He was one of most popular men in the company, and his loss will be keenly felt by all officers and other ranks in “B” company. He was an excellent soldier, always doing his work well and always had a cheery word for everybody. Please except our deepest sympathy in your great bereavement."
