Luke's Story.
Luke had been born in the parish of St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Stockport, the son of the late Patrick Joseph Bradley and Catherine Bradley. He had married Sarah Ellen and, with their son, they lived at 4 Terrace Place, Hope Hill, Stockport. Later, Sarah moved to 28 Baker Street, Heaton Norris but, by the time the Imperial War Graves Commission was collecting casualty information in the early 1920s, she had also died. To have been fighting with a regular army battalion at this early stage of the war means that it is almost certain that Luke was a professional soldier. Details of the fighting on the day he was killed are here. Luke's older brother John was also killed, on 13 August 1915, serving with the 2nd Cheshires.
