Birkenhead News  19 June 1918

DIED AT A CLEARING STATION.

The news has been received that Gunner F. J. Chapman, R.G.A., died on June 10, at a Casualty Clearing Station, to which he had been admitted badly wounded and gassed. He had only been in France about seven weeks. Prior to joining the colours last November he worked for many years with Messrs. Asbury and Co., provision merchants, Vernon Street, Liverpool. In a letter of sympathy written by the nurse in charge to his widow who resides with his two children at 441, Borough Road, Birkenhead, she says “he seemed such a nice man and the short time he was with us we were all very much attached to him. Everything that possibly could be done was done, but to no avail, and he passed peacefully away.”
