William Thomas's Story.

Born Kinsey Heath, Audlem, enlisted Manchester. Son of William Thomas and Sarah Emmie Ashley of 128, Flag Lane, Crewe. A former pupil at Mill Street School. Previously served an apprenticeship with Mr C. W. Heath of Edleston Road, Crewe and moved on to work for the Crewe Co-op (boot repairer by trade). Enlisted on February 14, 1916 (now residing in West Didsbury). Embarked from Folkestone for France on the SS Arundel on June 17, 1916. On the day of his death, his battalion were held up by uncut wire south of Guillemont Station and sustained heavy casualties from enfilade machine gun-fire.
