Guy William's Story.

Born Manchester, August 11, 1895. Son of
Frederick E. and Mary Ellen Alcock of 34, Nelson Street,
Crewe. Educated at Nantwich & Acton Grammar School
and was the first old boy to die in the war. Prior to enlisting,
was a printer’s boy. Enlisted in the Royal Navy in June
1911 and joined HMS Pelorus on May 29, 1912. In December
1914 he was wounded in the neck and taken to the Royal
Navy Hospital at Gibraltar, where he died on Christmas
Day, from pernicious anaemia and bronchial pneumonia.
According to several local papers, he was recommended
for the DCM for bravery while in the Persian Gulf (he is
listed on the Nantwich & Acton Grammar School flagpole
memorial with the DCM after his name).
