Birkenhead News  15 May 1915

Birkenhead Canadian Killed.

LANCE CORPORAL C. O. YATES.

On Thursday evening, Mr. J. Yates, of 115, Raffles Road, Birkenhead, received the distressing news that his only son, Mr. Clement Oswald Yates, had been killed in action during the fierce fighting near Ypres. Lance-Corporal Yates, who was only 27 years of age, came over from Canada with the first Canadian Expeditionary Force early in November. He had been in that country for about two years, and had attached himself to “G” Company, 15th Battalion of the Royal Canadian Highlanders. He was stationed on Salisbury Plain for some time before crossing over to France at end of last year. His father is a partner in the firm of Lackland and Co., glass merchants, Conway Street.
