OLD CATHCART STREET SCHOOLBOY.
News of the death of Pte. Alex Buchanan has been received by the parents, who reside at Tower View Gill’s Lane, Pensby. The deceased was only 19 years of age, and had been a member of the 3rd Cheshires for about two years. He was called up at the commencement of the war, and was transferred to the 1st Cheshires, leaving for the front on November 21st. He took part in most of the big battles, and judging from the letters received by the parents he was as happy as the circumstances would allow. He was killed on April 17th, during the heavy fighting at that time. The deceased, who was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan, 364, Price Street, Birkenhead, formerly attended the Cathcart Street Schools and his numerous school-fellows will hear with regret of his noble but untimely death.
