Charles Leigh's Story.

Charles Leigh Pickering was born in Altrincham, one of three children born to Robert Leigh and Amy Pickering. Charles was a buyer in his father's business. He moved and lived in ˜Bramley', Knutsford.


Baptism Record

He enlisted in the 2nd Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment as a 2/Lieutenant before transferring to the Royal Flying Corp.

Charles was killed in action on the 15th April 1917.

 

On that fateful day:

Charles' casualty record states that whilst piloting a B.E.2 C. aircraft he was engaged in aerial combat in the Basra area when he was shot down. The other occupant of the aircraft Lt. H.W. Craig, a 27 year old Irishman was also killed. His grave is XIV. L. 14.
