Birkenhead News  23 March 1918

TORPEDOED AND DROWNED.

News from the War Office has been received by Mrs. Docter, of 31, Mellor Road, Prenton, to the effect that her husband, Mr. Allan Procter Docter, has been lost at sea, through the torpedoing of his ship. Mr. Docter, who was a master mariner, holding an extra master’s certificate, had followed the sea all his life and had travelled the world over many times. The family are old residents of Prenton, where they have made many friends.

Mr. Docter had left home on the 14th of February outward bound on his perilous work after his ship had been for some time in Liverpool. He bade his family goodbye in the best of spirits and looked forward to a safe return. The ship, however, had only left the port four or five days when she was torpedoed. There are left a widow and three daughters to mourn his loss.
