John Percy Joseph's Story.
The 1911 census records that Percy, then 19, was living at Groves Farm, Batherton together with his parents William and Elizabeth White, his brothers: Thomas Sydney aged 18, David Archie aged 14 and Wilfred Harry aged 7 and his three sisters Minnie Annie aged 17, Violet Susan Elizabeth aged 12 and his oldest sibling Ethel May Garner, 22 and her husband John Garner, 24.
Percy enlisted 2nd November 1914 and was posted to the front on 29th September 1916. He was wounded and taken POW he died of his wounds at the Tourcoing Military Hospital in France.
With the exception of Wilfred, who was too young, all the brothers and their brother in law would enlist.
Thomas died in July 1917 and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, John Garner would die eight days before Percy. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing, Zonnebeke, Belgium.
