Harry's Story.

Harry Hammond was born in 1894 at Knutsford, the stepson of Frances Hammond, a widow, residing at 47, Old Market Place, Knutsford. He took employment as a gardener.

They later moved to no. 6, Old Market Street, Knutsford.

Harry's service record no longer exists but we know he joined the 5th Battalion of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry as Private no. 11916.

He arrived in France on the 20th May 1915. He was later promoted to Lance Corporal.

Harry died of wounds in hospital in Tottenham, Middlesex on the 3rd October 1915.
