Philip Oswald's Story.

Philip Oswald Bell was born in 1896 in Nether Peover, Cheshire one of nine children born to William (a brewer) and Alma Bell of the Warren de Tabley Arms, Peover.

Philip became a professional soldier.

Philip joined the Royal Field Artillery as Signaller no. 9888 of the 149th (County Palatine) Battery.

He arrived in France on the 28th November 1915.

Philip died on the 10th May 1916, having been wounded eight days before.

On that fateful day:

It was reported in a letter from his commanding officer to his mother that a shell had come through the roof of his dugout while the men were asleep and exploded, killing several of them and wounding Philip, who died later at the field hospital.
