WOUNDED OFFICER DIES IN GERMANY.
Mr. and Mrs. James Frayne, 2, Old Chester Road, have received official intimation of the death of their son, Lieut. Ernest Frayne M.C., who was attached to the 16th Middlesex Regt. Lieut. Frayne was taken prisoner on March 25th of this year, and was then suffering from paralysis caused by a fall. According to the information which Mr. and Mrs. Frayne received the deceased officer died on May 17th whilst a prisoner in Germany.
Lt. Frayne was attached to the Liverpool Scottish Regt. T.F., and upon the outbreak of war was called up and sent out to France with one of the first drafts. By steady work and his undoubted proficiency he was soon promoted to sergeant, and was later granted a commission in the Middlesex Regt. He returned to France in Sept. 1916, and was then promoted to full lieutenant. He passed through many heavy engagements. He was recommended for the M.C. early in March of this year, and some days later reported missing, and later killed.
In pre-war days Lieut. Frayne was with the firm Messrs. Eills and Co., Hanover Street, Liverpool, and was very well-known both in Birkenhead and Liverpool. Mr James Frayne joined the colours several weeks ago, and much sympathy will be extended to both the parents and the family upon their sad bereavement.
