S's Story.
Private S. Sheppard died on 28th January 1901. His death was reported in the newspapers as S. Shepherd 4281. He is buried at Springfontein. The inscription on his headstone also names him as Shepherd.
However, his medals list and the name shown on the brass plaque in the south porch of St Michaels and All Angels Church in Macclesfield indicate he was S. Sheppard.
On 26th January 1901, it was reported that he was dangerously ill.
