J's Story.

Private J. McManus 3866 of the 4th Battalion Cheshire Regiment died of enteric fever (typhoid) on 3rd June 1901, at Springfontein, South Africa. He had been reported as dangerously ill on that same day, but with an incorrect regimental number.






The error was corrected after his death:






The medals list incorrectly gives his date of death as 4th June.

Private McManus is remembered on a brass plaque in the south porch of St Michael and All Angels Church, in Macclesfield:
