Isaac Althorp's Story.

Isaac Althorp was born on 24th August 1886 in Lymm, youngest son of Thomas Joseph (Solicitor & JP) and Emily Ridgway (Author) of Wlidermoor House, Higher Lane, Lymm.  He was educated at Mostyn House School, Park Gate, Cheshire and Manchester University (Victoria University) with B Sc (hons).  He became a member of the Institute for Civil Engineers on 26th August 1911.
After holding several positions in England he accepted the post of Chief Assistant to the Engineer, Freemntle, Australia and on 19th December 1913 was appointed district engineer at Queensland Coast in the Lighthouse Service Department of Trade & Customs of the Commonwealth of Australia.
When war broke out he obtained permission to serve his home country.
He was mortally wounded in the advance on Krithia on 8th May 1915 and died on a hospital ship 4 days later on the 12th May, aged 28.  He was buried at sea.
His parents had a stained glass window, portraying his face, erected in his memory in St Peter's Church, Oughtrington, Lymm, along with a processional cross, both can be viewed today by appointment with the church.
His older brother Thomas Ridgway served with the South Lancashire Regiment raising to the rank of Colonel and was actively involved with the memorial services in Lymm afer the war and campaigned for the welfare of ex-servicemen.
