Handbridge Lad’s Death
We regret to announce the death of Pte. F. Pynn, no. 49408, Cheshire Regiment, from wounds received in action on Oct. 16. Deceased, who was 19 years of age, joined the army in November 1915, and after training went to the front in August last. Educated at St. Mary’s school, Handbridge, he took an enthusiastic part as a boy in the Church Lad’s Brigade, attaining the rank of sergeant . He worked at Messrs. Williams lead-light works, George Street, and was the son of Mrs. Lloyd 55, Handbridge, and the late Mr. Pynn.
Frederick enlisted 16 November 1915, and went to France 18 August 1916, he was posted to No.4. Infantry Brigade Depot and then posted to the 10th battalion Cheshire Regiment on 16 September 1916.
The newspaper report gave Fredericks date of death as the 16 October, however all military documents state the 15th. Frederick’s service papers have survived, and it shows that he was wounded on the 9 October, at Stuff Redoubt. He was taken to the 9th Casualty Clearing Station (CCS) where he succumbed to wounds to his thigh and back six days later on the 15 October 1916.
