William Thomas's Story.

William was born in Whitchurch in 1889, the second son of William Murhall, a plasterer, and his wife Amelia, (nee Shone) of Liverpool Road, Whitchurch. William had one brother, Frederick. His mother died in 1895, and he was raised by his grandmother Mrs Ann Murhall, they lived at 9 Liverpool Road, Whitchurch.

The 1911 census records William still living with his grandmother in Liverpool Road, and working as a groom. His grandmother died in 1912.

William enlisted in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, in 1916, and was posted to the Royal Field Artillery depot in Preston, Lancashire. Unfortunately, William contracted Tuberculosis and subsequently died in Fullwood Military Hospital, Lancashire, on the 15th December 1916.

William is buried in St Alkmund’s Churchyard, Whitchurch, alongside his Mother and Grandmother.

 William is remembered on the Roll of Honour, inside the Lychgate, St Wenefrede’s Church, Bickley, Cheshire
