Edward's Story.
Edward was born in 1893 in Lymm, third son of Edwin & Ellen Gilberts of Newfield Road, Lymm. In civilian life he was an apprentice tool maker for 6 years for Mr W T Moss of Lymm.He enlisted at the outbreak of war in August 1914 and after his initial training was posted to France. He died on 25th August 1915 aged 22.
One of his brothers wrote to their mother that:
"Edward was on what we call outpost duty with two others. I am glad to say Mother that he died without any pain and he did his duty well and has given his life for his country and home.
I am glad to tell you that we have buried him peacefully in a quiet village churchyard in France. There was present Henry Brookes, Fred Kay, myself and Henry Watson from Latchford, Jack Read and a few more"
Edward was later interred in Suzanne Communal Cemetery.
