Edwin's Story.

Born September 11, 1885. Son of Edwin Charles and Florence Booth of “Rainow” Nantwich Road, Crewe. Attended Sandbach Grammar School (1898-1901) where he excelled as a goalkeeper in the 1st XI. Emigrated to Canada on February 22, 1912. Was a farmer prior to enlisting in December 1914. His entry in the Canadian Circumstances of Death Register lists him being killed in action at Sanctuary Wood. It is highly likely however, that Trooper Booth actually lost his life on June 2, when his battalion were virtually wiped out by a German attack, following the detonation of four mines under their lines (according to battalion war diary). His brothers Charles and Frank would both lose their lives in 1918.
