William's Story.

William Lockley was born in the September Quarter of 1894,( Cheshire West CAT/74/82) the son of Thomas and Ellen Lockley (nee Flanagan) and was the youngest of their three boys and the last one to die.

William Lockley in the UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 tells us that he was born and enlisted in Chester, and confirms the regimental details above.

 William Lockley in the UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 tell us that William had died on or since 26th October 1917 and his sole Legatee was his father Thomas who was paid £15 5s 8d on the 4th November 1918 and his War Gratuity of £14 10s on the 17th of November 1919.

This document also tells us that William was awarded the Victory & British War Medals  and the 15 Star.   Also the date of entry into the Theatre of War was the 15th February 1915 and that William was Killed in Action on the 16th October 1917, there is also a correction to one of the numbers stated above - Correct Regt No. 1747
