Donald Roy's Story.

Donald was an officer on HMS Malahne which was a luxury yacht formerly owned by the chairman of Woolworths retail business. It was requisitioned in 1939 and converted for admiralty use by adding machine guns, other guns and depth charges. the paint scheme was also changed to Navy standard colours. The ship was used for channel patrols during the Dunkirk evacuations before being assigned for Fleet Air Arm use as a target vessel. On 23rd October 1942 Donald was killed fighting a fire on board the ship. He was mentioned in Dispatches for his bravery during the fire fighting.
