William's Story.

William was born in the parish of St Mary's C of E Church, Stockport,  and his mother still lived at 16 Wilson Street, Portwood. He was married to May, and they are believed to have lived at 1 Gorton Road, Reddish. He enlisted at Stockport and his service number confirms this was in September 1914. He was killed in the fighting near to the Leipzig Redoubt. After the attack, William was posted as "missing" and it was not until June 1917 that May received official notification that he was presumed to have been killed. His body was never found and identified.
