Birkenhead News 24 August 1918Another Hoylake Sergeant Dies from Wounds.
Another of the 4th Cheshires has paid the supreme sacrifice in the person of Sergeant D Cooper, 18, Market Street, Hoylake, who passed away last week as the result of severe machine gun wounds in the spine. He resided with and was employed by his cousin, Mr. W. Davies, the well-known tailor. He came to Hoylake when quite a juvenile, and was called up with the other Territorials almost immediately on the declaration of war in August, 1914. So he had put in four years’ service. At Suvla Bay he was badly wounded in the hip, recovering after two operations. Following his convalescence he rejoined his regiment in Egypt, going through the successful Palestine campaign, and recently being transferred to France. He was only 24 years of age.
