Eli's Story.
Born in 1888 at Bollington, son of stonemason, Samuel Eli and Mary Jane, (nee, Cooper), Bradley who lived at Beeston Brow, Bollington. Eli had four sisters, Ellen, Eliza, Annie and Mabel along with an elder brother Charles.
Prior to enlisting at Warrington on 20 July 1916, Eli worked as a fruit dealer. He had married Hilda Walker at Prestbury Parish Church on 14 April 1914. His medical record shows him to be five feet three and quarter inches tall weighed 97lbs and had a chest measurement of thirty-three inches, his home address was given as Ingersley Road, Bollington. Having completed his training, he was drafted with the British Expeditionary Force to the Western Front, embarking from Southampton, 3rd May 1917, and arriving at Rouen the following day.
He was killed in action fighting on the Ypres Salient, Thursday, 7 June 1917, aged 29 years.
