James Sutton's Story.

Lance Corporal J. S. Saunders.

Mrs. Saunders, 110 Wistaston Road, Crewe, has received information that's her son, Lance Corporal J. S. Saunders, of the West Yorkshire Regiment, has been killed in action. Lance Corporal Saunders enlisted in November 1916 in the Royal Field Artillery and was subsequently transferred to the West Yorkshire Regiment. Prior to joining the colours, he was in the employ of the Crewe Co-Operative Society and was regarded by the officials of that body as a faithful and painstaking assistant. He was for some years a sidesman at Saint Paul's Church and a teacher in the Sunday school. He was very popular with his colleagues. Two of his brothers are serving with the forces Lance Corporal A. Saunders and Private F. Saunders, both of the Cheshire Regiment.

A Fine Soldier.

Lance Corporal Saunders wife, who lives in Stuart Street has received the following letter from the chaplain.
“I regret I have to inform you of the death of your husband, who was killed in action on August 20. He was hit by a shell and death was instantaneous. Your husband was a fine soldier, whose loss is deeply regretted by his officers and his comrades. They desire to send you their sincere sympathy in your sad bereavement. I pray that God may bless and comfort you. Yours sincerely, W.L.M. Law C.F.”
