The numerous friends of Captain and Mrs. Morris W. Roberts, “Min-y-don,” King Street, Rock Ferry, will learn with the deepest regret that their only son, Sergeant Oscar W. Roberts, was killed in the great offensive a few days ago.
Sergeant Roberts, who was 26 years of age, had upwards of nine years’ service with the Cunard Steamship Co., to his credit before joining the 11th Cheshires in September 1914. He was at that time a member of the staff of the armed cruiser “Aquitania.” He was the recognised champion athlete on board the Cunard vessels, having won upwards of £130 worth of prizes, his speciality being the mile. The gallant Sergeant was educated at Rock Ferry Higher Grade School, and was a member of the Rock Ferry Presbyterian Church.
