Private Michael Murray, who was killed in action on August 7, 1917, was 23 years of age. He joined the colours on August 21st, 1914, and went out to France in July, 1915, with the 9th Batt. Cheshire Regt. He was wounded on the Somme, and was sent to a base hospital at Rouen for a month, and then was transferred to the 13th Batt. Cheshires. Six weeks prior to being killed he was home on his first leave. He was employed at Price’s Candle Works, Bromborough Pool, when war broke out, and lived at 46, Grange Road West, Birkenhead.
