Gerald Arthur Thomas's Story.

Birkenhead News 11 September 1918

LOCAL SOLDIER KILLED.

Mrs. Melling, of 172, Chester Street, has received the sorrowful information that Pte. Gerald Melling, her son, aged 21 years, has been killed in action in France. It is stated that Pte. Melling was wounded twice last year in Egypt, and was recently transferred to France with his regiment. He joined up at the outbreak of war, and had been on active service for 2 ½ years without leave, and it was when he was expected home that his family received the sorrowful tidings of his death. He was previously employed at Morrison’s Bakery, Rock Ferry. His friends will doubtless sympathise deeply with Mrs. Melling in her sad bereavement.
