Albert Eardley's Story.
Birkenhead News 19 August 1916Death of a Barnston Soldier.
Sad news was conveyed in a letter from the War Office to Mr. and Mrs. A. Lloyd, of Whitfield Road, Barnston, informing them of the death of their eldest son, Corporal Albert Eardsley Lloyd, of the 8th Cheshires. He died on August 1st from disease in Mesopotamia. In recent letters written home he mentioned that the heat was intense (123 degrees in the shade), and that many of his pals had “gone over”. Before the war Corporal Lloyd was employed by the Birkenhead and District Co-operative Society at their Heswall branch, and was much respected in the neighbourhood. He was a member of the Barnston parish church choir, and was 22 years of age.
