Mr. and Mrs. Lee, of 1, Plymouth Place, Birkenhead, received news on Oct. 19th, 1918, that their son J. W. Lee, O.S., late of H.M.S. Hercules, had died of pneumonia on the hospital ship Garthcastle in his 18th year. Prior to enlisting he was in the employ of Messrs. J. Irwin and Co., grocers, Beckwith Street. Mrs. Lee received a letter from the chaplain saying he was greatly missed and beloved by all his comrades. He received his education at St. Paul’s School.
From mother, father, sisters and brothers –
Quietly sleep, beloved son,
Rest from they toil, thy labour is done;
Sleep till the trump of the opening skies
Bids thee from dust to glory rise,
Peacefully sleep.
