ALFRED JONES 

Alfred's Story.

348^th M.T. Coy (Swindon), Army Service Corps.

Son of Thomas and Harriet Jones. Husband to Agnes Clarke Young Jones of 41 Suffolk Street, Chester. Date of marriage shown as 7^th January 1900, Holy Trinity Church.  In 1901 was living at 2 Clare Court, Chester, working as a Brewers Labourer, where he lived with his wife, Agnes, and baby daughter, Harriet, born 17^th  December 1900. Subsequently had 3 further children, Henry Thomas born 22^nd January 1906, Agnes – 3^rd November 1908, Doris – 2^nd September 1917.

Enlisted on 31^st August 1916, when his address was given as 41 Suffolk Street, Chester, aged 36 years 2 months. 

Joined 348^th M.T. Coy 26^th April 1917 at Larkhill.

Admitted to the  Military Hospital, Forant, Wiltshire. Medical Case Sheet states, ‘Patient was admitted to hospital in apparently moribund condition on 18^th October 1918. He was semi conscious and very dysp(?) with marked (?). On admission temperature 103, pulse 140. Respirations 54 per minute, cough, no expiration.

19^th October 1918 – Patient seemed somewhat better, consciousness regained. Temperature 104 (am), 103 (pm), Resp – 60 (am),  48 (pm), Pulse – 150(am), 115 (pm).

20^th October 1918 – Patient weakening until death on 21^st October 1918, wife was present at death. 

He is buried atOverleigh Cemetery, Chester.

Was residing at 4 Queens Road, Chester when he was made Freeman of Chester on 14^th July 1905 by birth – his profession was shown as Painter.
