William's Story.

William was born in Hulme, Manchester in 1879 son of Thomas & Annie Hynch (nee Price)
In civilian life he was employed as a warehouseman with a large Manchester firm.

He married Martha Lockyer in September 1913 and they resided in Star Lane, Statham, Lymm, a daughter Greta was born in 1914.  His father-in-law was Councillor Frederick Lockyer, Chairman of the Lymm Urban District Council at that time.

William was well known in sporting and athletic circles being especially interested in football and bowls.

He joined the Manchester Regiment soon after the outbreak of war and was sent to France in November 1915 and was one of 4 serving brothers.  One of his brothers was taken POW during the retreat from Mons.

He died in action on 13th August 1916 aged 37 years.
