Thomas Henry's Story.
Birkenhead News, Saturday, November 16, 1918Mr and Mrs W H Babbs of 127 Victoria Road New Brighton, have received the sad news of the death of their son Gunner Thomas Henry Babbs R.G.A. , who died from pleurisy, at a casualty clearing station, in France, on October 31st. At the time he was taken ill he was due to return home on leave. Gunner Babbs, who was 30 years of age, had been a member of the Birkenhead Police Force for about six years, and his wife and two children reside at 7 Morley Avenue, Birkenhead. He joined the Army in May 1915, and went to France a year later. Since then except for brief intervals of leave, he had been at the front continuously, and had been in some of the most severe fighting.
He was educated at St Paul’s School, Seacombe, and was well known, especially for his interest in gymnastics and swimming. Mr and Mrs. Babbs wish to thank the many friends who have written to them expressing sympathy.
