Sydney Mervin Reginald's Story.

Born in 1897 at St Mary’s Trimulgherry, Deccan, India, son of Colour Sergeant John and Jane Green (nee, Parker), their address in the 1911 census is given as 7th Battalion Cheshire Drill Hall, Congleton.

Sydney attested at Congleton into the 7th Battalion Cheshire’s as a bugler. After training, he volunteered to go to the front with the 5th Cheshire’s; he entered France, 14/02/1915. His unit progressed to the Ypres Salient and were in the trenches for the YPRES battle 1915. Sydney died of a bullet wound to the head, received during this battle, Friday, 11 June 1915, he was aged 17 years. The Green family were now living at 49, Lowerhouse, Bollington.
