Guy Henry Goad's Story.
Born in 1897 at Frodsham, son of soap manufacturer, Joseph John and Alice Lilian, (nee, Stack), Crosfield, of, Netherdale, Frodsham, Runcorn, Cheshire. Guy had an elder brother, Eric Oliver.
Guy was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 1 October 1915; he was drafted to France on 18 July 1916. He fought in many offensives, the Somme, and in 1917 at Arras then later at Ypres before moving back to Arras. He was killed in action, Saturday, 26 January 1918, he was aged 20 years.
In St Laurence’s Church, Frodsham is a rectangular bronze plaque which reads;
IN LOVING MEMORY OF GUY HENRY GOAD CROSFIELD, LIEUTENANT 1st RIFLE BRIGADE, KILLED IN FRANCE JANUARY 26 1918, WHILST ON A PATROL FOR WHICH HE VOLUNTEERED, AGED 20 YEARS. I THANK MY GOD UPON EVERY REMEMBRANCE OF YOU.
Medals: British War Medal and Victory.
His effects and Will were named to his brother, Captain, Eric Oliver Crosfield, 1/4th Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment, at, Molbury Road, W. 14. He left £57463. 6s. 6d.
