Frederick's Story.

Born Crewe Green, September 21, 1894. Enlisted Crewe, April 1, 1912. Son of James and Hannah Cooke of 7, Cotterill Street, Crewe. Educated at Pedley Street School, and prior to enlisting was employed in the Crewe North Steam Sheds. Killed during the Battle of Jutland when HMS Defence was sunk with all hands. Was on leave in Crewe with Arthur Bradley (who was also on the Defence) just a fortnight before the battle. Frederick's brother Harold would be killed in action at Passchendaele in 1917.
